Installing a Modem To a GE Smart Connection Center Tech Tips. Smart Catalog Center. The Control Catalog is your comprehensive guide to product selection and pricing for GE electrical control products.

To share the internet connection, I must move my cable modem and router to the main GE box. My cable modem and VOIP Linksys router RT31P2 are located in my office with both telephone lines hooked to telephone and one to fax. The main box is in a closet.

Not sure if that will work or not, will be able to give it a try next week. I really like the idea of having my networking components centralized and also out of sight. Last on the list will be the installation of the. Centralizing backups and storage. Once again need to check on size and ventilation. П™‚ Funny thing, my wife is all excited about the kitchen and master bathroom in the new place. In true geek form I’ve been infatuated with this small panel in the master bedroom closet.

Please don't take offense at how much I'm going to break this down, but I don't know your skill level and don't want to leave any room for error. The coax goes from the wall into the cable modem which has a Cat-5 line coming out into one of your LAN jacks on the wall connecting it back to your GE switch. The line that is connecting it to your GE switch needs to go into the WAN port, not just any port on the switch. Plug your LinkSys VOIP router into another wall jack leading to the GE switch, the same as you would for any other PC or networked device. Your ISP would need the MAC address of the WAN port on the GE switch, which they should be able to get as soon as you plug the cable modem into it. If not, I can tell you how to figure out what it is. If you have a coax cable coming into the closet where the GE switch is you can put it in there, it won't make a difference as long as you plug the Cat-5 cable into the WAN port on the GE switch.

Our new home has a very cool panel in the master bedroom closet. The panel is made by General Electric and is called the. This unit brings everything from coaxial cable, home networking and telephone into a central point. From there it redistributes it to all the rooms in the rest of the home. I finally purchased two and read the tiny manual. I set one up in the kitchen to TEST with a 50 Watt lamp and it works GREAT. I just don't know WHEN it will cycle next, but I guess that's the mission and point of these spiffy timers!

Why didn't you do that from day 1? Those things are awesome.

My wall jacks are the type that accept both phone and network (just not at the same time). Does anyone know how to use it? It didn't come with any instruction manual and the GE website is no help. It's a lot of wires. My current internet is a cable based internet provider by passing the connection center and to a wireless router. Connecting router to the connection center to have hard wired house connections?

It works great, but for me in my house the bonus room and router are on opposite corners of the house and different floors. My connection speed wasn't that good so I hard wired it. You can test your approximate connection by using a wireless laptop up where the 360 will be. That should give you an idea of how the 360 with receive and transmit. I like the idea of wiring your home the other way. Why didn't you do that from day 1? Those things are awesome.

П™‚ Ok, better start doing some packing. Technorati tags.

My home is wired for cat5 connectors in all rooms. A GE connection center is the main box.

Sure as shit I found it by clicking on the network magic desk top tool box and made the change in a second. It even found an issue that head to be corrected after I made that change with my PC connection.

I connected cablemodem ethernet jack to the GE connection center cross connection board(there is an rj45 connector there for each room). I had to connect the rj45connecotr to connector for my office in the rear of the house. And then the connector in office I connected to the router wan port. And the computer I am writing this reply on is attached to my router. Now I am happy.

Behind the panel lies a nest of wires. The coax section employs a wacky splitting system to drive cable to all the ports in the house, and this appears to work — I’ve tested a few of the jacks and we get our Comcast Xfinity just fine, so I’m not messing with it. But the other part seen above, the green PCB, has an RJ-45 jack/dongle in it. Alas, it’s clearly the security part.

I bought a house with a GE Smart Home Connection Center pre installed. Network/audio/video/cables pre installed through the house. If that doesn't work. Come talk to me. I have the older model, that I've only used a few times, of the wireless antennae. Literally used it a few days. I'd sell it to you for cheap. It's not the newest version that has two antennas on it that they came out with. I paid $100 for it.

By downloading Network Magic I can control all of the settings on all computer connections from my main PC. Probably not a big deal to you techies but to a hacker like me it was a huge help.

I bought a 10/100 switch from Monoprice for $10, put it in that hole in the wall behind the panel, and ran a flat cable out to the modem just outside the closet. We now have a very robust home network and I haven’t had any trouble streaming anything to anywhere. Thank you for all the advice and information! This entry was posted in. Bookmark the.

It's hard to see from the pic, but is it clear what cables are for your phone jacks? Do you know if you have a home run configuration? (home run = each phone/cable/ethernet has one wire that runs directly to the box and not spliced anywhere in between) Do any of your ethernet ports work in the house? That modem looks like it has an open slot for an ethernet cable below the two ports that look to have spliced wires running into it. Is that your WAN port? That is where the ethernet patch cable would run into the GE box.

I gave you the cheaper option, but I imagine you bought something other than the arcade that would come with a HD. If not then get a high speed USB thumb drive. Give the Old Man a break! All I know is that my son could connect his Wii wireless, with intermittent connection issues, and play on line with his friends. With the XBOX I have decided to try to hard wire it for better results and I have to add doohickeys out the ying yang?
