By trial and error I isolated the required.exe file for the printing process and renamed second one too. Another funny thing is that, the required.exe file, Lexbecs.exe, is always running in the process. I use this printer once in a blue moon to print something in color and don’t want it to run all the time and wasting the memory. I have a Panasonic laser B&W printer for my daily use. However, I am not able to stop the Lexbecs.exe from the processes, because the Print Spooler became dependent on this Lexbces.exe. (I guess programers’ trick).

C Windows Driver Cache I386
Unless you're constantly installing drivers and files from the default WinXP install, you dont need the file. WinXP never uses it except for driver stuff. And you can have it look at the i386 folder instead on the CD. I usually keep WindowsDriver Cache, and WindowsSystem32DLLCache completely empty at all times. Ive been doing that ever since using betas of Windows 2000 back in 1999.
Good XP thinning guide here. Quote- 'C: WINDOWS Driver Cache i386 I delete the drivers.cab and the sp2.cab The Driver Cache folder contains a platform subdirectory and a copy of the driver.cab file so that new devices can be easily installed without needing the Windows XP CD. Might contain sp1.cab or sp2.cab if installing an integrated copy of the operating system (Slipstreamed CD). Sometimes Windows Updates will replace earlier versions of files contained in these cabs with newer versions. Placing them in the i386 folder, not the cabs themselves. You're not going to have these newer versions of files on your Installation CD.

I would deeply appreciate any help on this. What gives???

What is the full name of your installed anti-virus application or security suite and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on this computer since the last install of slipstreamed WinXP SP2?

Posted:, 11:01 PM Windows XP includes an enormous library of drivers-for printers, keyboards, scanners, mice and related pointing devices, digital cameras, and other devices-in a single compressed file called Driver.cab. (You'll find this file located in the%SystemRoot% Driver Cache i386 folder.) All the drivers in this file are certified to be fully compatible with Windows XP and are digitally signed by Microsoft.

I had read somewhere in the MS Knowledge Base that it could be deleted to save space for backups of the OS. Whenever a new device is installed you would however have to insert the Windows installation disc for the drivers.
When you install a new Plug and Play compatible device, Windows checks this location first. If it finds a suitable driver, installation proceeds automatically. If you don't understand what to delete when cleaning up your computer, then don't delete anything. I would suggest using System Mechanic () to safely perform cleanup operations. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows XP - Shell/User Be Smart! I have been having problems with the files in Windows/Driver Cache/i386.I know that there should be back ups in the CD Rom, but i dont have it. There is a Zip file named ' Driver' in the i386 folder. Is it a back up for the files in i386? Am i supposed to unzip it or somethin? Because of this problem, i cant install certain applications coz i keep getting the ' 16 Bit Windows Sub System' Error.
This is one of the folders System File Checker goes to on your XP installtion CD and the folder has been copied over to the hard drive of many PCs, which comes in handy if you lose your CD. You can also manually copy files over to the proper location to make repairs. I suppose it would be safe to delete any files in there--and the Service Packs can be replaced for now at Windows updates--but I wouldn't recommend it unless you really, really need the disk space. I would treat the i386 folder like any other backup--keep it as long as it is possible that you might need it.
