Adaptive security appliances with an Advanced Inspection and Prevention Security Services Module (AIP SSM) must be covered by Cisco Services for IPS. There is no need for the software update service.
Note The shared licensing backup server only needs a participant license. Configure a shared secret on the shared licensing server; any participants with the shared secret can use the shared license. When you configure the ASA as a participant, it registers with the shared licensing server by sending information about itself, including the local license and model information. Note The participant needs to be able to communicate with the server over the IP network; it does not have to be on the same subnet.
In order to balance the timeliness of releases with the thoroughness of testing, Cisco provides two different levels of automated testing on interim builds. A full regression test run consists of approximately 17,000 test cases. The images which pass this level of testing are posted on CCO for direct customer access at the regular customer download location for ASA. A light regression test run consists of approximately 700 test cases.
I've got an ASA 5505 that didn't like any of the options I set it to using the default settings of the tool. A simple free hex editor allowed me to edit the '5540' to '5505' and resave the EXE file. I tried this with asa901-k8.bin on a 5505 today with no apparent issues. It works with the exception of a feature in v9.01 called 'Cluster'. The other feature that did not enable is the 'Intercompany Media Engine'. Please help, I am completly new in this Cisco technology, I have setup my home lab for practice with a ASA 5505 with base license but it does not give me the option the configure a server on the DMZ the only option I have is to find a security plus license.
Go to post #133 in this thread where a very helpful person has posted the files you need. You can upgrade from 7.2(2) to 8.2(2) directly, but be aware that such is not always the case. Read this update guide: I did the update ten minutes ago. The keygen license was then accepted. It makes no difference whatsoever that it says 5540 on the keygen; it does not alter the key. Thanks to everyone helpfully posting the keygen, updates and advice in this thread! After you upgrade, if you activate additional feature licenses that were introduced before 8.2, then the activation key continues to be compatible with earlier versions if you downgrade. However if you activate feature licenses that were introduced in 8.2 or later, then the activation key is not backwards compatible.
For example, if you configure a phone with a primary and backup Cisco Unified Communications Manager, there are 2 TLS/SRTP connections, so 2 UC Proxy sessions are used. Note In Version 8.2(2) and later, Mobility Advantage Proxy no longer requires the UC Proxy license. VPN load balancing Requires a Strong Encryption (3DES/AES) License. VPN License and Feature Compatibility shows how the VPN licenses and features can combine.

The answer is no. The activation key is burnt on to the chip. When the ASA is assembled, it has dedicated keys. This will not change in the lifetime of the device. When the appropriate license is purchased, Cisco then provide activation-key to those feature/s.
I tried every variation of the keygen until concluding that. You can update to 8.2(2).

• If the participant cannot reach the license server to send the refresh, then the participant can continue to use the shared license it received from the server for up to 24 hours. • If the participant is still not able to communicate with a license server after 24 hours, then the participant releases the shared license, even if it still needs the sessions. The participant leaves existing connections established, but cannot accept new connections beyond the license limit. • If a participant reconnects with the server before 24 hours expires, but after the server expired the participant sessions, then the participant needs to send a new request for the sessions; the server responds with as many sessions as can be reassigned to that participant. Information About the Shared Licensing Backup Server The shared licensing backup server must register successfully with the main shared licensing server before it can take on the backup role. When it registers, the main shared licensing server syncs server settings as well as the shared license information with the backup, including a list of registered participants and the current license usage. The main server and backup server sync the data at 10 second intervals.
When the active license expires, you need to manually activate the new one. Be sure to activate it shortly before the old one expires so you do not lose functionality.

Also, if the main server later goes down for any length of time, the backup server operational limit decrements day-by-day. When the main server comes back up, the backup server starts to increment again day-by-day. For example, if the main server is down for 20 days, with the backup server active during that time, then the backup server will only have a 10-day limit left over. The backup server 'recharges' up to the maximum 30 days after 20 more days as an inactive backup.

In routed mode, hosts on the inside (Business and Home VLANs) count towards the limit when they communicate with the outside (Internet VLAN), including when the inside initiates a connection to the outside as well as when the outside initiates a connection to the inside. Note that even when the outside initiates a connection to the inside, outside hosts are not counted towards the limit; only the inside hosts count.
It is supported on most of the platforms, which business users use. They can gain access to the network, via functions like PBR, Security groups, contexts, and DNS doctoring. This gives a lot of flexibility to the product.Improvements to My Organization:It gave us a more secure environment and a lot of flexibility to the business.Room for Improvement:The next generations part of these products need a better approach. A lot of vendors are definitely a step or two in front of them.Use of Solution:I have worked with these types of firewalls for more than 10 years.Stability Issues:I can say that this product is one of the most stable products I have ever worked with.Scalability Issues:In terms of scalability, this always depends on how the product was chosen and what purpose it will work for. I haven't experienced any issues with the scalability of the product.Technical Support:In terms of technical support, it depends on the different cases. I would surely give Cisco technical support a rating of 9/10.Previous Solutions:I used to work with open source solutions, but the support and complication behind them was definitely not OK.
