Personally, I don't think you need a so called 'Restricted driver'. I use M14r2 as well and I found that even if you can switch to nvidia official driver, it does not gain much on performance.

Hello, i have been having this problem with my wireless network driver. I know this issue was a while back, but I got stuck and got busy. Now I have time to fix it,and I still could not fix it despite searching around google and Dell forums. The problem: There was a brief period of time where i could not access the internet even though it says im connected(limited connectivity). So i tried uninstalling the network driver and install it again.

I prefer to install with no extra recovery partition so yes its important to delete all partitions first so you can create a new single one out of the entire drives raw data.
Ethernet Driver
I just installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit on my Alienware M14x R1. However, there appears to be several issues which may be driver related. The first issues are that I actually am missing the drivers for the ethernet and WLAN (Bigfoot Killer 1103). Unfortunately, I am unable to locate Windows Vista drivers for these devices, I'm forced to use a USB wifi dongle right now. I noticed some software such as DriverDetective claims to have found the drivers I need.
